Weekend Improvers Sewing Classes

Completed our Beginners Sewing Classes and want to learn more? Or perhaps you already know the basics and would like to get to the next level. Taking our Improvers Sewing classes will get you to the next level in just 8 weeks! In this Improvers class you will learn how to work with simple commercial patterns, and basic pattern drafting so you can continue your sewing journey!

Use of our sewing machines and overlockers if you don't have your own.

Days: Saturdays

Time: 10:00 to 12:00pm

Max: 8 learners

Location: Rooty Hill

Class Length: 8 x 2 hour sessions

Prerequisite: Completed Beginners Sewing Classes or have prior sewing skills.

Fabrics for each project

Dressmaking pins (Glass, Pearl, or Plastic head)

Measurement tape

Tailors chalk

Matching coloured cottons/ threads along with Bobbins

Scissors

Glue stick

Extra sewing machine needles to have handy

Pens / Pencil

A notebook to take down measurements

Butchers paper / Packaging paper for drafting

Online learners will need a dress-form or mannequin. 

Take accurate measurements 

Draft a basic dress

Draft a princess line dress

Pin and layout patterns

Carbon sewing

Working with zippers

Garment construction

Setting up and basic use of an overlocker.

Learners will complete one project using basic level commercial pattern and one project using the basic patterns drafted by themselves as well as work as a team taking measurements and completing projects.

Those learning in-studio if you need a dress form to practice, you can rent one from the studio for a fee of $50 for the 8 weeks of your course.
