10-Week Creative Sewing Series

Children will explore the wonderful world of handmade soft toy creation through this fun, imaginative, and skill-building sewing course designed especially for young creatives.

 

Throughout this 10-week series, children will learn how to design, draft, cut, sew, and finish a variety of adorable handmade soft toys while building confidence using both hand sewing and sewing machines in a safe and supportive environment.

 

This course encourages:

Children will be guided step-by-step through every stage of the toy-making process and will learn essential sewing foundations that can be carried into future sewing and textile projects.

🧵 What Children Will Learn

During this course, children will learn:

 

- Introduction to sewing tools and equipment

- Sewing machine safety and basic operation

- Hand sewing techniques and stitches

- Importance of hand sewing in toy making

- Understanding fabrics and fabric types

- How to sew curves and corners

- Pattern reading and understanding pattern pieces

- Custom pattern drafting for simple toys

- Using selected commercial toy patterns

- Fabric layout and cutting techniques

- Stuffing and shaping soft toys correctly

- Adding decorative details safely

- Finishing and assembling techniques

- Sewing accuracy and neatness

- Creative design and colour coordination

 

Children will also learn how to:

 

- Trace and copy patterns

- Create simple custom toy designs

- Understand toy construction methods

- Build confidence sewing independently

 

🧸 Projects Included

Children will create approximately 7–8 small soft toys throughout the course.

Projects may include:

- Teddy Bears

- Plush Sheep

- Soft Plush Mice

- Mini Pillows & Cushions

- Felt Creatures

- Pocket Plushies

- Character Toys

- Decorative Handmade Softies

 

Project numbers may vary slightly as every child learns at their own pace.

Children will receive copies of patterns for the toys they create throughout the course to continue sewing at home after classes finish.

 

 

🧵 Supplies List – What to Bring

 

Please bring the following items to class:

- Fabrics of choice

- Sewing threads

- Hand sewing needles

- A pack of mixed-size sewing machine needles

- Soft toy stuffing/filler

- Notebook and pencil/pen

 

⭐ Good To Know

 

- No unsafe small plastic parts will be used.

- Eyes and facial details will be created safely using sewing techniques only.

- All projects are beginner friendly.

- Children are taught in a patient, encouraging, and supportive environment.

- Learning hand sewing is considered equally important as machine sewing in this course.

 

💰 Fees & Payments

 

Fees are to be paid one week in advance to secure your child’s place in class.

 

As places are limited, early bookings are highly recommended.
