Our Beginning Patchwork & Quilting course is the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of patchwork and machine quilting. Designed specifically for beginners, this relaxed and supportive four-week course will guide you through every step of creating your very first quilt and coordinating patchwork cushion cover.
You'll learn practical quilting techniques while building confidence in a friendly, encouraging environment. By the end of the course, you'll have completed two beautiful handmade projects and gained the skills to continue your quilting journey with confidence.
What You'll Learn
Throughout this course you will learn:
- Understanding the basics of patchwork and quilting
- Selecting suitable quilting fabrics
- Reading and following a simple quilting pattern
- Accurate measuring and rotary cutting
- Achieving a consistent ¼" seam allowance
- Piecing patchwork blocks and joining rows
- Pressing techniques for professional results
- Layering a quilt (creating the quilt sandwich)
- Basic machine quilting techniques
- Trimming and squaring your quilt
- Attaching quilt binding
- Caring for your finished quilt
Projects You'll Complete
During this course you will create:

No previous patchwork or quilting experience is required.
Students should already be familiar with the basic operation of their sewing machine and have completed a couple of simple sewing projects before attending this course.
Please note that this course focuses on patchwork and quilting techniques rather than basic sewing machine operation.

Maximum class size: 8 students
What to Bring
- Sewing machine, foot pedal and power cord
- ¼" quilting foot (or tape to mark a ¼" seam guide)
- Coordinating sewing thread
- Microtex 90/14 sewing machine needles
- Measuring gauge
- Seam ripper
- Rotary cutter (if bringing your own cutting mat)
- Cutting mat (optional)
- Quilting ruler (recommended)
- Fabric scissors
- Sewing pins
- Binding clips
- Fabric marking pen or tailor's chalk
- Notebook and pen (optional)
Irons and ironing boards are provided for use during class.
Fabric, batting and project requirements will be discussed prior to the course. Students may bring their own fabrics or purchase a beginner quilting kit if available.
