Challenge your creativity while treating yourself to these Sew Upcycling classes to repair, customise or personalise and add value to your used pre-loved garments by giving them a new and more qualitative life.

Learmers will discover a unique way of recycling previously un-wearable used clothing, creating sustainable fashion wearables. Rather than landing them up in our landfills, why not we get smarter with our textile waste and create your own Upcycled Fashion!

Teaching Strategies....

Deconstruction:

Learners will be taught how to deconstruct a garment and reassemble using key parts of the garment, to re-create a new style or product. Students will have several choices of projects that will be geared to their experience/skill level. By deconstructing a garment by pieces, will teache learners how a garment is constructed.

Once each garment is completely deconstructed, learners will determine what key elements of the garment they would like to keep and the parts they want to discard.

Reassembling :

The pieces are then reassembled creating a completely different garment/ style / product. The discarded pieces will be kept away as they serve as extra fabric needed to embellish a finished garment or even create an entirely new product.

The Zero-waste concept :

Most to all of the original pieces from the deconstruction process will be used and/or ideas are given to utilizing leftover fabric pieces to follow the zero-waste concept.
At the end, this teaches us that with a little work and creativity we can make something new from something old and old clothes are never seen the same way again.

Objectives

While you turn your old jeans into a trendy jacket or an old sweater into a cute crop top, you are opening doors to a new way of looking at old/used clothing. One of the most surprising elements of this class is that no sewing experience is needed, and all experience levels can create recycled fashion.

Did someone ask about drafting?
I understand not everyone like drafting patterns, hence I have structured these classes in the most creative way of teaching with no to extremely minimal drafting.

Learners will leave with a feeling of accomplishment that if they want something new they can create it. This ultimately changes the way we not only shop but also see our own textile waste.

Participants will work on a total of 5 projects over a period of 8 weeks.
