🧶 My First Crochet Adventure
Four Weeks of Yarn, Creativity & Little Handmade Treasures!
Let the crochet adventures begin!
Our My First Crochet Adventure is a fun, hands-on, four-week course designed to introduce children aged 5–12 to the wonderful world of crochet.
Rather than simply practising stitches, children will embark on a different creative adventure each week, discovering how colourful yarn and a crochet hook can become something they have made themselves.
From friendship bracelets and playful yarn creatures to colourful crochet shapes and a final personalised creation, every session introduces new skills, creative choices and exciting possibilities.
Through patient demonstrations, guided activities and plenty of encouragement, children will develop confidence, concentration, fine motor coordination and creative problem-solving skills.
No previous crochet experience is necessary. Both right-handed and left-handed learners are welcome!

🌟 Week 1 — The Chain Adventure
Project: Colourful Friendship Bracelets & Bag Charms
Our adventure begins with colourful yarn, crochet hooks and lots of creative exploration!
Children will learn how to hold their crochet hook, make a slip knot and create their very first crochet chains.
Once comfortable with chaining, learners will use their new skills to create colourful friendship bracelets and decorative bag charms.
They can experiment with different yarn colours, lengths and simple finishing techniques to personalise their creations.
Skills: Holding a crochet hook, yarn control, slip knots, chain stitches and simple finishing.
Take-home creations: Crochet friendship bracelets and a decorative bag charm.
🐛 Week 2 — The Stitch Adventure
Project: My Little Crochet Worm or Snake
This week, children will discover how crochet stitches can transform yarn into a playful little creature!
They will revisit their foundation chains and begin exploring basic crochet stitches.
Using a simple beginner-friendly design, learners will create a colourful crochet worm or snake.
Children who are still developing their stitch skills can make a chain-based creature with decorative features, while more confident learners can create a narrow stitched strip or add additional rows.
They can personalise their creatures with different colours and suitable felt decorations.
Skills: Foundation chains, beginner stitches, stitch counting, yarn control and simple shaping.
Take-home creation: A colourful crochet worm or snake.
🎨 Week 3 — The Shape Adventure
Project: My Colourful Crochet Creations
Our third adventure explores how simple crochet stitches can become different shapes and useful handmade pieces.
Children will learn how to turn their work and build rows, gradually creating small squares or rectangles.
They will experiment with colour combinations and discover how their crochet pieces can be transformed into decorative creations.
Depending on their progress, children may make:
- A colourful crochet square.
- A miniature crochet flag.
- A decorative bookmark.
- A small crochet patch.
- A simple yarn-and-crochet decoration.
Learners will be encouraged to choose colours and personalise their projects.
Skills: Working in rows, turning crochet, counting stitches, maintaining shape and colour planning.
Take-home creation: A personalised crochet shape or decorative item.
🎉 Week 4 — The Grand Crochet Adventure
Project: My Very Own Crochet Creation!
For our final adventure, children will combine the skills they've learned to create a personalised handmade project.
Each learner will choose a suitable project based on their confidence, interests and developing crochet abilities.
Possible projects include:
- A colourful crochet coaster.
- A miniature crochet pouch.
- A decorative crochet bookmark.
- A crochet bag charm.
- A little crochet character.
- A personalised crochet decoration.
Children will plan their colours, practise their chosen techniques and add finishing touches.
Learners who need additional support can use prepared crochet starting pieces or simpler designs, allowing everyone to participate meaningfully.
Skills: Creative planning, applying crochet techniques, simple assembly and finishing.
Final creation: A personalised handmade crochet project.
Project complexity and size will be adapted to suit each child's age, abilities and individual progress.
