✨ Four-Week Creative Journey

WEEK 1 — COLOURS & PATTERNS

Project: My Colourful Patterned Bracelet

Children begin by exploring colourful beadwork patterns.

Using large, child-appropriate beads and suitable threading materials, learners create a bracelet featuring repeated colour sequences.

They experiment with pattern arrangements and colour combinations.

Skills: Colour sequencing, threading, pattern repetition and coordination.

Finished project: Colourful patterned bracelet.

WEEK 2 — PAPER BEAD MAGIC

Project: My Handmade Paper-Bead Necklace

Children discover how colourful paper can be transformed into decorative beads.

Using prepared paper strips, learners roll and secure their own paper beads.

They then arrange the beads into a simple repeating pattern and assemble a necklace using suitable child-appropriate materials.

Skills: Paper rolling, bead construction, pattern design and creative assembly.

Finished project: Handmade paper-bead necklace.

WEEK 3 — GEOMETRIC BEAD ART

Project: My Decorative Geometric Bead Artwork

Children explore how beads can be arranged into colourful geometric patterns.

Using a prepared cardstock or lightweight craft-board base, learners create a decorative design featuring repeated shapes and colour sequences.

They experiment with symmetry, spacing and colour combinations.

Skills: Geometric design, symmetry, pattern arrangement and composition.

Finished project: Decorative geometric bead artwork.

WEEK 4 — MY BEAD ART MASTERPIECE

Project: My Personalised Beaded Wall Hanging

For their final creative adventure, children become beadwork designers!

Using techniques learned throughout the course, learners create a personalised decorative wall hanging.

They combine suitable beads, colourful paper elements and geometric patterns to create an original design.

Children explore balance, colour coordination and decorative composition.

Skills: Design planning, combining techniques, pattern-making and personalisation.

Finished project: Personalised beaded wall hanging.

Activities may be adapted to suit individual ages, abilities and learning needs. Larger beads, prepared components and paper alternatives may be used where appropriate.

🌏 Discovering Cultural Art

Maasai beadwork is an important artistic tradition among Maasai communities in Kenya and Tanzania.

Beaded jewellery and decorative items can communicate identity, social relationships, cultural traditions and personal expression.

Colours and patterns may have different meanings depending on context.

Children will be introduced to these traditions through respectful, age-appropriate discussions.

Our projects are contemporary classroom creations inspired by geometric beadwork techniques, rather than reproductions of ceremonial or culturally significant items.
