Every beautiful embroidery begins with a single stitch!
Children will become familiar with embroidery hoops, fabric, needles and colourful embroidery threads.
They will learn how to thread a needle, secure their thread and practise running stitch and back stitch.
Using these techniques, learners will create a simple embroidery sampler featuring lines, shapes and decorative patterns.
Week 2 — Cross Stitch & Colour
Project: Colourful Stitched Patterns
This week, children will explore introductory cross stitch and discover how stitches can create colourful shapes and patterns.
They will practise combining different thread colours while creating simple decorative designs.
Learners will develop confidence in stitch placement, spacing and following basic patterns.
Week 3 — Pictures in Thread
Project: Design My Embroidery Picture
It's time to turn stitches into artwork!
Children will plan a simple embroidery design, choosing suitable shapes, colours and stitching techniques.
They will learn how to transfer their design onto fabric and begin stitching their personalised embroidery picture.
Designs may include flowers, hearts, stars, animals or other age-appropriate motifs.
Week 4 — My Final Embroidery Hoop
Project: Finished Embroidery Artwork
Children will complete the embroidery picture started during Week 3.
They will practise finishing their stitches, securing loose threads and arranging their completed artwork neatly in an embroidery hoop.
Each learner will have the opportunity to share their creation and celebrate the skills developed throughout the course.
Children will take home their own decorative embroidery hoop artwork.
