Description
This sewing course is aimed at Improvers level with some experience. If you are looking to make soft furnishings for your own home or others, then this course would surely interest you. You will gain confidence with using your sewing machine on your own and to attempt more ambitious home projects to beautify your home with pride.

Session 1 - Refreshing your Basic skills\
In this session you will be refresh to your basic skills in sewing machine. Areas covered are: winding a bobbin, threading the machine, changing a needle, sewing straight lines, curves and corners, machine button holes, hemming, finishing seams, setting the tension and stitches, reverse stitching and more.
Session 2 - Make a Zipped Cushion
In this second session of the course you will make a zipped cushion cover and learn a series of techniques. You will work with plain zippers using them to make a railroad and a lapped enclosures for the cushion cover.
What to bring:
Cushion fabric- 50cm of fabric (115cm or 150cm wide)- 45-50cm (18-20 inches) closed end zip
You will need to bring the above times two to complete two cushion covers.
Session 3 - Make a Fitted sheet and a pillowcover
In this second session learn to draft and construct a Fitted sheet and two styles of pillowcovers. You will work with plain zippers using them to make either a railroad or a lapped enclosures for the pillowcover. You will also be using elastic to complete your fitted sheet.
Session 4 - Make a Lined Curtain
In the third session you will progress into constructing a lined curtain using hand and machine stitching, measuring and calculating the fabric requirements for your window.
You will gain the following skills when making your sample:
- Estimating fabric quantities
- Calculate drops & widths
- Allowances for hems & turnings
- Select & apply headings
- Assemble pieces together
- Gather up professionally
Session 5 - Make a Roman Blind
During the last day you will be able to put your new skills into practice by making and walking away with a sample roman blind. You will gain the following skills when making your sample:
- Calculate fabric quantities
- Allow for seams & turnings
- Allowances for hems & turnings
- Assemble pieces together
- Add trimmings
- Apply headings
- Cord & rings
- Discuss techniques available
Furthermore....
All machines and equipment are provided, unless you would like to bring your own sewing machine to learn on, you are welcome to do so.
You will be making all the projects (sessions 3 to 5) in sample versions in the class.
Tea, Coffee and biscuits will be provided along with humor so we get to hear some giggles and laughter in class to help create a seamless atmosphere.
