In our Fabric Painting Fun four-week course, young artists discover the exciting world of painting, decorating and personalising fabric.

From colourful brushstrokes and creative patterns to stamping, stencilling and designing their very own tote bag, children will explore a wonderful variety of fabric-painting techniques.

This hands-on course encourages creativity, self-expression and artistic confidence while introducing children to practical textile decorating skills.

Each week builds on the previous lesson, allowing learners to experiment with different techniques before completing their own painted fabric creation.

No previous painting experience is necessary!

Week 1 — Fabric Painting Basics

Project: My First Fabric Painting Samples

Discover the wonderful possibilities of painting on fabric!

Children will explore fabric paints, brushes and simple painting techniques.

They will experiment with colours, brushstrokes and basic designs on practice fabric pieces, creating a collection of painted samples.

Week 2 — Stamps, Stencils & Patterns

Project: Creative Fabric Pattern Designs

This week is all about patterns!

Children will learn how to use stamps and stencils to create decorative designs on fabric.

They will experiment with repeated shapes, colour combinations and simple pattern arrangements to create their own fabric artwork.

Week 3 — Design Your Own Tote Bag

Project: My Personalised Fabric Tote

It's time to create something useful and beautiful!

Children will plan their artwork and transfer their chosen design onto a plain cotton tote bag.

Using the techniques explored during the previous sessions, they will begin painting their personalised fabric creation.

Week 4 — Finishing Touches & Creative Showcase

Project: My Finished Fabric Masterpiece

Children will complete their tote bag designs, add decorative details where appropriate and review their work.

They will learn about the importance of drying and setting fabric paint correctly, following the manufacturer's instructions.

At the end of the course, learners can proudly share their colourful creations with the group.

Please note: Depending on the fabric paint used, finished items may require additional drying or heat-setting at home before washing or use.

All learners must bring their own materials and equipment. Course fees do not include supplies.

Essential Painting Materials

• Fabric paints suitable for cotton.
• Assorted paintbrushes.
• Small foam brushes or painting sponges.
• Fabric painting stamps.
• Fabric painting stencils.
• Paint palette or mixing tray.
• Small water container.
• Pencil and eraser.
• Fabric marking pencil or washable fabric marker.
• Protective apron or old shirt.

Fabric & Project Materials

• Plain cotton fabric pieces for practising techniques.
• One plain cotton tote bag suitable for fabric painting.
• Cardboard sheets to place beneath fabric while painting.
• Masking tape or painter's tape.
• Paper towels or cleaning cloths.

Additional Essentials

• Sketchbook or drawing paper for planning designs.
• Small folder for artwork.
• Bag for transporting materials.
• Water bottle and a small snack.

Important: Please ensure all paints are specifically suitable for fabric. Parents and carers should check product instructions for drying, heat-setting and washing requirements.
