Discover the exciting art of printing beautiful patterns onto fabric!

In our Fabric Block Printing four-week course, children will learn how simple designs can be transformed into colourful, repeating patterns using printing blocks and fabric inks.

From creating their first printing block to experimenting with repeated designs and layered colours, young learners will explore a wonderful textile art technique that combines creativity with practical design skills.

🖌️ Your 4-Week Creative Journey

Week 1 — Design & Create a Printing Block

Project: My First Fabric Prints

Children will discover how block printing works and explore different shapes, patterns and designs.

They will plan a simple design and transfer it onto a suitable soft printing block.

Using age-appropriate techniques and close supervision, learners will create their printing surface and experiment with their first fabric prints.

For younger learners, pre-cut foam shapes or other non-carving methods may be used.

Week 2 — Printing Repeated Patterns

Project: My Patterned Fabric

This week, children will explore the art of creating repeated patterns.

Using their printing blocks, they will experiment with arranging designs in rows, alternating patterns and changing print directions.

Learners will practise applying fabric ink and positioning their blocks to create decorative fabric samples.

Week 3 — Layered & Two-Colour Printing

Project: Colourful Layered Fabric Designs

It's time to add another layer of creativity!

Children will explore how two colours can be combined to create more detailed fabric prints.

They will experiment with colour placement, overlapping shapes and simple layered designs.

Through practice, learners will develop confidence in controlling ink application and arranging their prints.

Week 4 — My Final Fabric Printing Project

Project: Personalised Printed Tote Bag or Fabric Set

Children will bring together the skills developed throughout the course to create a final printed fabric project.

Depending on their interests and abilities, learners can choose to decorate:

  • A plain cotton tote bag.
  • A set of cotton fabric squares.
  • A decorative fabric panel.

Children will plan their designs, select suitable printing blocks and colours, and create their personalised fabric artwork.

Please note: Finished projects may require additional drying or heat-setting before use or washing, depending on the fabric ink manufacturer's instructions.
