Discover how colourful fabric pieces can come together to create something wonderful!

Our Creative Fabric Patchwork four-week course introduces children aged 5–12 to the traditional craft of patchwork through fun, practical and beginner-friendly activities.

Children will explore fabric colours, patterns and textures while learning how to arrange, join and decorate fabric pieces.

From creating their first patchwork design to completing a miniature quilt or decorative cushion front, young learners will develop practical sewing skills, creativity, patience and confidence.

No previous sewing or patchwork experience is necessary!

✂️ Your 4-Week Creative Journey

Week 1 — Colours & Squares

Project: My First Patchwork Design

Children explore colourful cotton fabrics and learn how to arrange squares into simple patchwork patterns.

They will experiment with different layouts, colour combinations and decorative arrangements.

Week 2 — Joining the Pieces

Project: My First Patchwork Panel

Children learn how fabric pieces are joined using beginner-friendly techniques.

They will practise simple hand stitching and begin assembling their own patchwork panel.

Week 3 — Borders & Backing

Project: Building My Patchwork Creation

Children explore how borders enhance patchwork designs and learn about backing fabrics.

They will continue joining their fabric pieces and preparing their project for finishing.

Week 4 — My Final Patchwork Masterpiece

Project: Mini Quilt or Decorative Cushion Front

Children bring together their new skills to complete a personalised patchwork creation.

Depending on their age and abilities, learners can create a miniature decorative quilt, cushion front or patchwork wall panel.

Projects will be kept small and achievable within the available class time.

Please note: A cushion front is a decorative panel. Construction of a complete cushion is not included.

🧵 Supply List — What Learners Need to Bring

All students must bring their own materials and equipment. Course fees do not include supplies.

Fabric Materials

• Assorted cotton fabric squares and scraps.
• Cotton fabric for backing.
• Coordinating fabric for borders.
• Additional fabric for the final project.

Sewing Equipment

• Child-safe fabric scissors.
• Suitable hand-sewing needles.
• Needle threader.
• Sewing threads in coordinating colours.
• Fabric clips or suitable pins.
• Measuring ruler.
• Fabric marking pencil.
• Pencil and eraser.
• Optional fabric glue for decorative practice activities.

Optional Decorations

• Ribbons and trims.
• Buttons.
• Embroidery threads.

Personal Essentials

• Small sewing kit or storage container.
• Bag for transporting projects.
• Water bottle and small snack.

Pre-cut fabric squares are recommended for younger beginners.
