🪡 Your 4-Week Creative Journey

Week 1 — Shapes & Fabric Collage

Project: My First Fabric Appliqué Picture

Children will explore the colours, patterns and textures of different fabrics.

They will learn how to select, cut and arrange fabric shapes to create a simple picture.

Using fabric glue, learners will position and secure their shapes onto a fabric background.

This introductory project helps children understand the basic principles of appliqué while encouraging creative design.

Week 2 — Adding Stitches

Project: Decorative Stitched Appliqué

This week, children will discover how simple hand stitches can be used to decorate and secure fabric shapes.

They will practise basic edge stitching using age-appropriate sewing tools.

Learners will then create a small appliqué design featuring decorative stitching and contrasting fabric shapes.

Week 3 — Layered Fabric Pictures

Project: Textured Fabric Artwork

It's time to experiment with layers!

Children will combine different fabrics, colours and textures to create more detailed appliqué pictures.

They will explore overlapping shapes, decorative stitching and simple embellishments to add depth and interest to their artwork.

Week 4 — My Final Appliqué Creation

Project: Decorative Fabric Picture or Cushion Front

Children will bring together the skills developed throughout the course to design and complete their own appliqué creation.

Depending on their age and ability, learners can choose to make:

  • A decorative appliqué fabric picture.
  • A personalised fabric wall hanging.
  • An appliqué cushion front.

They will plan their design, prepare fabric shapes, arrange the composition and complete the appliqué decoration.

Please note: A cushion-front project is a decorative panel; construction of a complete cushion is not included unless time and individual skill levels permit.
