🐞Four Weeks, Four Clay Creations, A World of Imagination!

Get ready for a wonderfully squishy, creative adventure!

Our Clay Critter Workshop is a four-week Afterschool Creative Course where children aged 5–12 discover how to transform simple pieces of clay into adorable animals and imaginative characters.

From little turtle trinket dishes and woodland foxes to textured hedgehogs and magical creatures, each week introduces a new clay-modelling technique.

Children will explore shaping, joining, sculpting and decorating while developing fine motor coordination, patience, creative thinking and confidence.

No previous clay-modelling experience is necessary!

✨ Your Four-Week Creative Journey

WEEK 1 — PINCH-POT PETS

Project: My Little Turtle Trinket Dish

Children begin by discovering how a simple ball of clay can become a miniature pinch pot.

They will shape the pot into a turtle-inspired trinket dish, adding a head, legs, tail and decorative shell details.

Learners will explore how to create a shallow bowl shape and attach small clay components.

Skills: Pinching, shaping, joining and basic construction.

Finished project: Turtle-shaped trinket dish.

WEEK 2 — WOODLAND WONDERS

Project: My Miniature Woodland Fox

This week, children will explore how basic clay shapes can be combined to create an animal sculpture.

Using balls, cones and flattened shapes, learners will construct a miniature woodland fox.

They will add ears, a tail, facial features and decorative details.

Skills: Form building, proportions, joining and character design.

Finished project: Miniature woodland fox sculpture.

WEEK 3 — TEXTURE & PATTERN CRITTERS

Project: My Textured Hedgehog

Children will discover how texture can transform a simple clay shape.

Using child-appropriate modelling tools and textured objects, learners will create a hedgehog sculpture with patterned details.

They will explore stamping, pressing, marking and adding surface decoration.

Skills: Texture creation, surface decoration, tool control and observation.

Finished project: Textured hedgehog sculpture.

WEEK 4 — MY MAGICAL CLAY CREATURE

Project: My Fantasy Clay Critter

For their final creative adventure, children will become clay creature designers!

They will plan and sculpt an original imaginary character using techniques learned throughout the course.

Perhaps they'll create a tiny dragon, a friendly monster, a magical woodland creature or something entirely new!

Children will choose their creature's features, textures and personality.

Skills: Creative planning, combining techniques, sculptural construction and personalisation.

Finished project: Original fantasy clay creature.

Activities may be adapted to suit each child's age, abilities and working pace.

🎨 Drying & Finishing

This course uses child-appropriate air-dry clay.

Children will complete their clay-modelling activities during each session.

Finished sculptures require additional drying time, which varies according to the clay product and the thickness of each project.

Items may need to remain at the studio until sufficiently dry for safe handling and collection.

Optional painting or sealing may be completed later where appropriate.

Clay creations are decorative and are not intended for food or water use.
