🧵 Your Four-Week Learning Journey

Week 1 – Getting Started with Knitting

Discover the basic tools, materials and techniques used in knitting.

You'll learn:

• Understanding knitting needles and yarn

• How to hold your needles and yarn

• Casting on stitches using two needles

• Working the basic knit stitch

• Creating garter stitch

• Maintaining consistent stitch tension

• Beginning a simple practice project

Practical Activity: Cast on and knit your first rows.

Week 2 – Shaping & Reading Patterns

Build on your new knitting skills while learning to shape your work.

You'll learn:

• Revising casting on and knit stitches

• Casting off correctly

• Increasing stitches

• Decreasing stitches

• Creating simple shapes

• Understanding basic knitting abbreviations

• Introduction to reading knitting patterns

Practical Activity: Create shaped practice samples using garter stitch.

Week 3 – Purl Stitch & Decorative Stitch Patterns

Discover how knit and purl stitches can be combined to create different textures.

You'll learn:

• Working the purl stitch

• Combining knit and purl stitches

• Garter stitch

• Stocking stitch

• Moss stitch

• Identifying stitch patterns

• Following simple written knitting instructions

Practical Activity: Knit sample swatches featuring different stitch patterns.

We'll also discuss a suitable beginner-friendly project for your final session.

Week 4 – Your First Knitting Project

Bring together everything you've learned!

You'll:

• Revise casting on and casting off

• Practise knit and purl stitches

• Review increasing and decreasing

• Read and follow a simple pattern

• Begin your chosen beginner-friendly project

• Learn basic finishing techniques

• Receive guidance for continuing your project independently

Practical Activity: Work on your own knitting project with individual assistance.

👜 What to Bring

Please bring:

• One pair of 6mm knitting needles

• Suitable knitting yarn

• Yarn or tapestry needle

• Small scissors

• Notebook and pen or pencil

I'll guide you on suitable yarn choices and project materials as your skills develop.
